19 of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his initial title for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a torrid period, achieving just one win at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in specific - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with former trainer Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents the player's first title since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface after spring of that year.

The win also means he has won 21 championships at twenty-one different events.

"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters at once, so to get a trophy is particularly special," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my child her name, because the maiden victory I won when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his past six finals, comprising in the German tournament previously this season.

His counter-punching play style and frequent reactions on the playing surface had prompted some to wonder if his ability to compete at the highest level was concluded.

But the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to approach the net and play positively, backed up by an enhanced service.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, taking 4 of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors exchanged breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial tour championship, gained dominance to force a third set.

Moutet rescued 4 initial break points in a tight final set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner clinched victory with a point at the net, with Moutet unable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
