Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of characters who will split off from the central cast to begin their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (played by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
The Reason for Division
Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might look mismatched, but the events of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
First, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.
Casimir then paid off his debts and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd close behind.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each member has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and advises that it is a nasty environment.
- The strong character and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the team reach locations they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- Thimble and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.
This means them no alternative but to head to Timmony in search of Casimir.
Future Episodes
From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Explorers and Schemers tables.
Fans can expect learning which characters will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
